SUDBURY --CTV News has learned there are more layoffs at Algoma Steel in Sault Ste. Marie.

Officials with the company confirm 10 employees from across the operation will be laid off.

Algoma management says due to current "market conditions" in the industry, the company must take action to ensure the overall long-term health of the business.

Brenda Stenta is the communications manager for Algoma Steel. Stenta tells CTV News in a statement that the company is "monitoring  the situation"  and they hope to bring back the laid off workers when market conditions improve.

"We regret we must take this difficult step and are very sensitive to the impact on our employees, their families and the community at large," said Stenta.
