SUDBURY -- Ontario Provincial Police in Temiskaming Shores has confirmed a husband stabbed his wife before killing himself in Temiskaming Shores on Oct. 11.

A post-mortem examination took place in Sudbury at the Centre of Forensic Sciences on Oct. 13.

"The victim has been identified as Judy Neddo, age 75, and the other deceased has been identified as Basil Neddo, age 77," police said in a news release Wednesday. "Stab wounds were determined to be the cause of death for both individuals."

"The Temiskaming OPP Crime Unit and OPP Forensic Identification Services (FIS) under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) began to investigate the homicide/suicide that occurred on Little Street."

Police responded to the call Oct. 11 at 3:10 p.m. to check on the well-being of the occupants.

"Once on scene, police made entry into the residence, where two persons were located deceased," police said.

Detectives are still trying to piece together a motive.

"We know what happened, but not why it happened. We are continuing to investigate in an attempt to learn those facts," said Det. Insp. Rob Matthews in an email to CTV News. "There has been no history of police involvement with this family."
