TheTemiskaming detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police is warning motorists about the dangers of wildlife on highways.
Police say 11 collisions involving moose and one collision involving a bear have been reported in the Temiskaming OPP patrol area, so far, this month.
Moose:
- June 5 - 10:00 p.m. - Hwy 11, Coleman Township
- June 7 - 12:30 a.m. - Hwy 11, Temagami
- June 8 - 10:00 p.m. - Hwy 64, Temagami
- June 12 - 10:00 p.m. - Hwy 11, Temagami
- June 12 - 10:10 p.m. - Hwy 11, Temagami
- June 12 - 10:45 p.m. - Hwy 11, Temagami
- June 17 - 4:00 a.m. - Hwy 560, Elk Lake
- June 22 - 4:05 a.m. - Hwy 11, Temagami
- June 24 - 10:25 p.m. - Hwy 11, Temiskaming Shores
- June 24 - 10:50 p.m. - Hwy 11, Temagami
- June 25 - 4:30 a.m. - Hwy 65 W, Barber Township
Bear:
- June 15 - 12:30 a.m. - Lakeshore Road, Temiskaming Shores
Police are reminding drivers that wildlife can be a hazard at all hours of the day or night. They say scanning the sides of the road and reducing your speed will significantly increase your reaction time.
