SUDBURY -- Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a young driver after officers from the East Algoma detachment responded to call of an sport utility vehicle (SUV) hitting and killing a dog at the Esten Lake boat launch in Elliot Lake.

Police say they received the call on Aug. 13 from the dog owner who was walking their dog in the area when the vehicle struck and killed the dog before leaving the scene. 

The complainant reported the license plate number to police and recovered pieces from the damaged SUV.

An investigation determined the driver, 16, did not have a license.

Police have charged the teen with Drive Motor Vehicle – No License and Fail to Report Accident.
