Teen arrested after stabbing in Far North First Nation community

Police have arrested a teen in the Kashechewan First Nation following a stabbing incident in the Far North Ontario community on the weekend.
Officers with the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service (NAPS) were dispatched to a residence on Saturday following reports of an assault having occurred.
“When police arrived on scene they located an adult female who appeared to have sustained injuries from a recent assault,” police said in a news release.
“The victim was transported to the nursing station for further evaluation and treatment of her injuries.”
NAPS officials said the injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.
Through their investigation, officers determined that a female youth had arrived at the home that afternoon and confronted the victim.
“During this confrontation, the youth is alleged to have assaulted the victim with a knife,” police.
Later in the day on Sept. 14, police located the suspect and took them into custody “without incident.”
Police said the victim and accused are known to each other.
As a result of the NAPS investigation, a 16-year-old local has been charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
“The name of the accused is being withheld in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act,” said police.
The accused was remanded after she attended a bail hearing on Sunday.
None of the accusations has been proven in court.
