Update:

The investigation continues into a late-night fire in the Greater Sudbury community of Chelmsford on Saturday.

Police are now treating as an arson, saying the fire was deliberately set.

The forensic unit was at the scene on Charette Avenue for a good art of Sunday.

"We do work in collaboration with the Ontario Fire Marshal's Office and it has been handed over to us as an arson, so we are investigating it as such. There are reports that two individuals were seen in the area prior to the fire starting and that a container filled with accelerant was left on the porch that was lit on fire," said Kaitlyn Dunn, of Greater Sudbury Police Service.

Eight tenants from the building's four units have been displaced as a result.

During the late evening of September 21, Greater Sudbury Fire Services responded to a structure fire inside a four-unit apartment building on Charette Avenue in Chelmsford.

The fire was contained to one unit and other units suffered mostly smoke damage.

Damage is estimated at $150,000.

Eight tenants had to be displaced from the building.

"Whenever we get a fire, we offer to put displaced individuals up through the Red Cross. But all of them had friends and family where they could stay, so none of them required that assistance," said Platoon Chief Mike Valiquette.

Fire officials say the blaze was suspicious in nature.

Shauna Pardy, a neighbour, said "a car pulled up, some chaos happened, and then the car pulled out again and more chaos happened. I looked out the window and thought it was a fight, but somebody came to my door and said it was a fire, and sure enough my house was on fire, and it was crazy."

Valiquette says the police and Fire Marshal's Office have been called in to assist in determining the cause and origin of the fire.
