SUDBURY -- A 32-year-old man from Lively is facing several charges after he crashed his vehicle Sept. 23 and got into a fist fight with his passenger.

Sudbury Ontario Provincial Police got the call at 5:05 a.m. about an assault on Maani Street on the Atikameksheng First Nation.

"Investigation revealed two people were driving to Atikameksheng First Nation when an argument ensued regarding the manner in which the driver was operating the vehicle," police said in a news release Monday.

"The driver continued to drive erratically until the vehicle skidded across the road and came to a sudden stop. Both parties subsequently engaged in a fist fight on the side of the road."

Unpon arrival, police quickly realized the driver had been drinking and was under a driver's license suspension.

He is now charged with impaired driving, driving with a blood/alcohol concentration more than the legal limit, driving while prohibited and driving while suspended.

He was issued a 90-day licence suspension and the vehicle was impounded for 45 days.

The investigation is continuing, police said.

This charge marks the 47th driver charged with impaired driving in the Nipissing West Detachment area in 2020.
