SUDBURY -- Sudbury Ontario Provincial Police discovered a large cache of drugs Nov. 10 in an abandoned vehicle just south of their station on Highway 69.

Police discovered the vehicle, which was a rental car, around 6:45 p.m. when officers saw a car parked on an angle with its lights off, facing southbound in the northbound lane on Highway 69.

"Investigation revealed the rental car was initially southbound on Highway 69 when it struck the centre traffic light post at the intersection of Pioneer Road, which resulted in severe damage to the vehicle, rendering it inoperable," police said in a news release Tuesday. "The occupant(s) had fled the scene and could not be located."

Police seized a substantial quantity of drugs, suspected to be opioids, oxycodone, cannabis, edible products along with Canadian and U.S. currency.

The street value of the drugs seized is unknown pending an analysis report from Health Canada, police said.
