Police in Sault Ste. Marie say three employees were attacked while at work Monday, receiving multiple blows to their heads before the suspect was subdued.

The incident took place around 12:30 p.m. at a business on Great Northern Road. A 41-year-old suspect has been charged in the case.

"An investigation revealed the accused had become aggressive with a staff member, grabbing them by the neck and punching them in the head," police said in a news release Tuesday.

"When this victim was able to get away, the accused attacked another staff member and punched them in the head multiple times. When a third staff member attempted to intervene, the accused punched them in the head, as well."

The trio detained the suspect in a room until police arrived.

"Two victims sustained minor physical injuries, one of whom was transported to hospital," police said.

The suspect has been charged with two counts of assault, and one count each of assault causing bodily harm and causing a disturbance.

They were released on an undertaking with a court date of Jan. 20.
