Head: Suspect arrested within minutes of New Sudbury robbery

A suspect in a Lasalle Boulevard robbery Sept. 25 wasn't on the lam very long before Sudbury police made an arrest.

Police were alerted to a robbery on the boulevard at 8:30 a.m. and a suspect was arrested 45 minutes later.

"Information provided was that an individual entered the store, threatened an employee and demanded money," police said in a news release Thursday.

"The individual then fled with an undisclosed amount of cash. Just before 9:15 a.m., officers located an individual on Gary Street matching the description of the person responsible for the Robbery. The individual was taken into custody without incident."

The investigation led to a residential garage on Diane Street where police located the stolen till from the cash register.

"It is believed that the individual unlawfully entered the garage to hide and discard the till," police said.

"The individual was also found to be in possession of a bicycle that officers believe was stolen in the area of Diane Street and Dollard Street."

If you live in that area and your bike is missing, call police at 705-675-9171, ext. 6624, and provide a description of the bike.

Charged in the case is a 22-year-old man from Sudbury who was on probation. Charges include uttering threats, possession of stolen property, robbery, break and enter, mischief under $5,000 and failing to comply with a probation order.

He was released following an appearance in bail court Wednesday.
