Timmins police have a 19-year-old man in custody, who they say is responsible for two recent robberies, after tense moments Sunday.

The investigation into two convenience store robberies that happened in Schumacher last Thursday and Friday culminated with the containment of part of the Timmins area neighbourhood on Sunday.

Several residents in the small community had to be evacuated for public safety reasons while police located the suspect.

As a result, police arrested a local man who is now facing a list of firearm and weapon-related charges.

Police say the accused is scheduled to attend a bail hearing Monday.
