Sudbury teen releases cookbook with Make-A-Wish Canada
A Grade 12 Sudbury high school student is using his wish to release a cookbook of his own creation with a personal touch in hopes of inspiring others.
Ty Chauvin, 17, goes to Lasalle Secondary School and has recently published his first book with the help of Make-A-Wish Canada.

Chauvin was diagnosed with multiple health issues at birth, including heart disease, and has had multiple surgeries, the Rainbow District School Board said in a news release.
Recently, he found out that he also has a rare genetic syndrome.
"Despite the challenges, Ty perseveres. He never gives up and is an inspiration to many. His determination is evident in all the things he has endured, overcome and accomplished," the school board said.
"When he was granted a wish from Make-A-Wish Canada, only one wish stood out for him. His very own cookbook. Ty is a giver, so he invited others to join him on his culinary journey."
The cookbook includes some of his favourite recipes as well as some from family and friends along with photos from his childhood and notes from loved ones and health care providers.

"In these pages, you will find more than just delicious entrées and appetizing feasts you will discover a recipe for life … what it means to embrace the challenges and setbacks that life throws your way," Ty is quoted as saying on his cookbook's website.
"What this journey through life has taught me is life is tasty when we choose to push through the pain and discover the one thing that sets our soul on fire."
He said his passion for cooking began at a young age sitting in the kitchen with his dad.
"It’s a brilliant reflection of a resilient young man determined to achieve his goals," the school board said.

Part of the cookbook's proceeds will be donated to three organizations that have impacted Ty: Make-A-Wish Canada, SickKids and NEO Kids Sudbury.

Ty's mother, Vicky Rickard, told CTV News there was a mix up with the website builder and he did not have cancer, but does have a neuromuscular disease.
