A Sudbury teenage golf star is celebrating and his dedication to the sport is paying off.

Tristan Renaud is about to be living the dream, as he has scored a university golf scholarship in the United States.

With a flick of the pen, 17-year-old Renaud accepted a full scholarship to play golf at Sam Houston State University in Texas.

“As much as it feels surreal, it feels right. This is what I've been working towards since I started here." said Renaud.

His golf dream has been supported by a large and loving clan of family.

He started chasing the little white ball at Idylwylde Golf Club when he was just 11.

“It's been a great road for him, to develop as a fine young man." said Tristan’s mom Lynn.

Renaud is the youngest person to ever win the Idylwylde Men's Invitational tournament, doing it last year at the age of 16.

His connection to the course is why he chose to sign his scholarship papers at the club.

"This is where the dream was born. When I got a membership here, I showed up every day I could and never really looked back.” said Renaud.

He says he will keep pushing towards his ultimate goal of playing professionally.

His proud mom says his dedication to the sport hasn't wavered and has been helped along by family and friends.

"One thing that's always been in his corner is our support, everyone's support. And even the club here has been fantastic." said Lynn.

Renaud is headed to California next week to spend the winter training with a coach.

He'll then spend the summer competing in tournaments before joining his new teammates in Texas.
