SUDBURY - An information picket was held in Sudbury on Thursday by workers at a local senior's facility.

CUPE Local 1182 members held an informative picket outside their workplace at Extendicare York.  Participants say they are protesting against the lack of time they get to spend caring for their residents. They are calling on the government to pass Bill 33 - Time to Care Act.

Jason Harasymchuk is the president of the local union representing the workers.

"What we want is for them to pass that so that each resident on average gets four hours of hands-on care per day because the average they’re getting is like six minutes of care in the morning. Can you get ready in six minutes?" asked Harasymchuk.

The union says something needs to be done and soon because residents aren't getting what they deserve.

Tracy Lamirande, a representative with Extendicare York said in a statement:

"Regardless of the position held by our team members within our home, our mutual priority and focus is to provide high quality care and services to our residents."
