The French Catholic school board in Sudbury held an information session Thursday night to update the community on its partnership with the Sudbury District Sports Club in an effort to build a sports dome.

A $3.3 million privately-funded sports facility will be built on the grounds of Sacre-Coeur high school and will include two artificial grass playing fields for year-round use. The school board will invest $300,000 into the project to prepare the grounds, addign outdoor bathrooms and parking spaces.

“It’s good for everybody. Good for the community, good for the school, and I’m sure it will help everybody with all of the different sports 12 months of the year.” said Andrew Bidal, of Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario.

“We have our permits before the city for approval, so we're hoping that they will expedite that and get them approved as quickly as possible. Once we have those permits in hand, then we can move on to finalizing our deal with the contractor.” said Mike Graham, project lead.

Construction is expected to begin in the spring.
