Update:

Sudbury's second recreational cannabis store is finally set to open.

Highlife announces it will open its doors Friday, May 24 at 9 am.

The store, located in New Sudbury by the movie theatre, is holding a grand opening with a discount and says it will have Canada's top cannabis producers on site to answer questions, as well as food truck and DJs on site.

The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario confirms it has finally issued a retail operator licence to Anton Lucic and a retail store authorization to the store he plans to operate, Highlife, on Marcus Drive in Sudbury.

A pre-opening inspection must still be completed by the AGCO to ensure the operator is ready to open for business and sell cannabis products to the public in accordance with the Cannabis Licence Act, 2018, its regulations, and the Registrar’s standards for cannabis retail stores.

Last month, the owners of Highlife and another Sudbury- based cannabis retail outlet, Canna Cabana, were each fined $12,500.00 by the AGCO for not opening by a scheduled deadline of April 1.

Canna Cabana has since opened in the city’s south end.

A spokesperson for Highlife says an opening date will be announced later Thursday or on Friday.
