SUDBURY -- Vendors in Sudbury say they are happy to be back in business, especially after not knowing what the future would look like for sellers.

"We kind of had to end the winter market on a early note, so I am super happy to be back and it’s so nice to be outside and see all the customers again," Emilie Hebert, owner of La Baguette Magique.

"I love it here, we are like a family we all help each other and I am just so glad to be back," said Barb Zarnke, owner of Plain Jane Designs.

"This will be year 15 with the market. You make a lot of family and friends at the market. You have your regulars and then you meet new people all the time," said Colleen Pronk, owner of C J Pies 'n' More.

In order to ensure physical distancing, the market's location had to be changed. Instead of its original location on Elgin Street, it has now been moved to York Street.

Organizers say there are a few changes that had to be put in place for this year's market.

"The biggest thing is that we are social distancing, so all the vendors are set apart and we’ve put lines up so that the customers who come in will stay a certain distance, at six feet. Because of social distancing we're restricting all the parking to the south side of the market," said Thomas Merritt, Chair of the board with the Greater Sudbury Market Association.

"Everybody that’s around here is being great at respecting everybody’s distance and our distance and yeah it’s greatly good, everybody is doing a really good job," said Jayne Baxter, of Maple Acres Farm.

The change in location has not kept buyers away.

"We’ve been regular attendees of the market since it opened, at this location and the downtown location and we are thrilled it’s open and to see all the precautions they are taking and we feel very safe coming out today to be able to support our local vendors,” said one shopper.

"We’ve been coming to the market for years now and it’s so good to see local vendors around again," said another shopper.

City officials say there were 13 vendors set-up on Saturday, but they are expecting that number to increase each week.
