Big changes are in store for a home improvement outlet in Greater Sudbury.

During the next few weeks, the city’s Lowe’s store on Marcus Drive will be converted into a RONA.

“This represents a significant investment in Sudbury and renews RONA’s commitment towards an iconic brand in Canada,” the company said in a news release Wednesday.

RONA is a Canadian home improvement retailer that operates or services some 425 corporate and affiliated stores under different banners.

“This project is part of a nation-wide plan set into motion last June that will see Lowe’s stores in Canada progressively make the switch to RONA, an iconic brand that has served communities across the country since its founding in Québec in 1939,” the release said.

"This is an important step for the future of RONA,” Andrew Iacobucci, CEO of RONA Inc., is quoted as saying in the news release.

“The conversions of Lowe’s stores represent a significant investment and a renewed commitment to the RONA brand. RONA has been a household name for home improvement in Canada for close to 85 years now.”

The company said its priority during the transition is to provide the best possible experience for their home improvement DIY and contractor customers.

“The store will remain open during the conversion, guarantees offered by Lowe’s will be honoured, gift cards will still be accepted at RONA+ stores and other Lowe’s stores in Canada, and private brands will remain in the stores’ offering,” the release said.

RONA Inc. is one of Canada’s leading home improvement retailers headquartered in Boucherville, Que. In business since 1939, the company has 22,000 employees.
