Greater Sudbury Police Service says a serious two-car crash on the Lasalle extension early Wednesday morning closed the road about 5:30 am.

Police say it happened between Frood Road and Elm Street on the Lasalle Extension, causing both lanes of the road at each of the two intersections to be closed.

Both drivers, a 49-year-old man and a 49-year-old woman, were the lone occupants in the vehicles.

They have both been transported to hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

The road will remain closed for an investigation.  No estimated reopening time.

Drivers should avoid the area and find an alternative route.

Because of the temperature Tuesday morning, area roads are a bit icy, so drive with caution.
