SUDBURY -- Sudbury's hospital is celebrating the release of its first ventilated COVID-19 patient.
Health Sciences North posted a video on its social media accounts, showing a man being cheered on by hospital staff.
The video comes as hospital staff remind the public of proper protocol for getting tested for COVID-19.
In recent weeks, testing capabilities have dramatically increased throughout the province, including in Sudbury.
Officials are hoping increased access to tests will lead to a better understanding of the virus and the severity of community spread.
While previously available to only high-risk individuals, anyone suffering from any of the following known symptoms of COVID-19 is asked to call the COVID-19 Assessment Centre:
- Fever or chills
- Sore throat
- New onset or worsening fatigue
- Loss of taste or smell
- New onset or worsening cough
- Headache
- Loss of appetite
- Runny Nose
- Nausea or Diarrhea
- Shortness of Breath*
Patients will be screened by a nurse over the telephone, and referred to one of three testing locations if testing is necessary.
A total of 47 people have tested positive for the novel coronavirus, 38 cases have been resolved, including one death, within the Public Health Sudbury & Districts service area.
