Update 2:

CTV News spoke with Highlife, one of two retail cannabis stores looking to open in Sudbury, and it has not yet received its licence from the province yet.

This means, the store on Marcus Drive will remain shut until the AGCO gives the go-ahead.

A spokesperson from the store says they plan to open on a Friday once the licence is received.

Update:

It looks as if neither of the two cannabis retail stores planned for Sudbury will be opening on April 1.

That is the day the Ontario government wants the 25 licencees to be open for business, but the people running Highlife in New Sudbury, near the movie theatre, say they'll be a few days late as they continue to work through paperwork.

The company now says it hopes to be open April 5.

Canna Cabana Sudbury, the other pot shop to open on Long Lake Road, hopes to open later in April.  It's public notice period ended March 22.

Original:

Sudbury’s first retail cannabis store, Highlife, is set to open on April 1.

It's located in a space formerly occupied by a shoe outlet at 1299 Marcus Drive and is one of two northern stores being licensed by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario.

The public had until March 6 to comment on the proposed location, which is close to the Silver City movie theatre.

After much speculation, the second location in northern Ontario was announced and it was revealed to also be located in Sudbury.

The second store will be called Canna Cabana Sudbury and will be located in the city's south end at 2019 Long Lake Road, at the Four Corners across from the Southridge Mall.

Members of the public have until March 22 to make comment or submit an objection on the  Long Lake Road location.

CTV News will continue to follow this story and bring you updates as they become available.
