SUDBURY -- A 44-year-old Sudbury resident is facing several charges following a violent incident Aug. 16 in Markstay-Warren.

Members of the Warren detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police and Sudbury Emergency Medical Services were called at 2:45 a.m. to a domestic dispute at a residence in the community, police said in a news release Monday.

The suspect is accused of breaking and entering into a former partner's residence, violently sexually assaulting them and threatening to kill the victim.

"While attempting to effect an arrest, the accused resisted and assaulted an officer," police said.

As a result of the investigation the 44-year-old is charged with sexual assault, aggravated assault, uttering death threats, break and enter, assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Oct. 30 in Sudbury. The OPP no longer releases the gender of the people they arrest.
