Sudbury police want to thank Good Samaritan who helped officer with violent suspect

Greater Sudbury Police want to thank a resident who helped one of their officers subdue a violent suspect.

The incident took place On Beatty Street near Elm Street around 5 p.m. on June 3 when police responded to a complaint a man was threatening people in the area.

“When the officer arrived on scene and asked the individual to leave, the man became aggressive and assaulted the officer,” police said in a social media post Wednesday.

“While the officer attempted to place the man under arrest, the man resisted and continued to assault the officer making it difficult to effect the arrest.”

That’s when the Good Samaritan stepped in. He stopped his vehicle “and helped the officer until backup arrived on scene.”

“Unfortunately, the Good Samaritan left the scene before officers were able to identify him,” police said, adding “if you are the kind community member who stopped to help our officer, please call the on-duty staff sergeant’s office.”
