Sudbury police view custom sled built by local students
Last week, members of the Greater Sudbury Police Service (GSPS) visited a local high school to get a look at a unique sled.

“School resource officer Const. Desloges and rural officers Const. Tremblay and Const. Brunette were honoured to join Bishop Alexander Carter Catholic Secondary School students for the unveiling of their Polaris XCR 800 asphalt drag sled that was constructed as part of the school’s ‘Manufacturing and Robotics High Skills Specialist Program,’” said police in a social media post.
More than 100 students in grades 7 – 12 were involved in the building of the custom sled – including the disassembly, mock-up and fabrication of custom parts.
In recognition of the students’ work, all of their names were included on the sled.

The Manufacturing and Robotics program is geared towards students who are interested in careers in the skilled trades and GSPS has contributed to the program through its Chief’s Youth Initiative Fund.
Police officials expressed thanks to the school’s co-op/ Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program teacher Paul Mailloux who led the program along with his father and ‘crew chief’ retired GSPS member Yvan Mailloux.
“Job well done,” said police.

GSPS officers also visited the school last month to host a ‘fireside chat’ during Police Week to speak with students interested in a career in law enforcement.
