Sudbury police see truck with insecure load, investigation leads to driving and drug charges

Things kept getting worse for a Sudbury man who was pulled over by police in downtown Sudbury on Aug. 10.
At first, the 56-year-old suspect caught the attention of police around 7:15 p.m. for having an insecure load in the back of his pickup truck.
“Upon running the vehicle, the registered owner of the vehicle came back as being uninsured,” Sudbury police said in a news release.
“The officers followed the vehicle to Elm Street and then to Frood Road where the vehicle was seen making erratic manoeuvres. Officers initiated the emergency lights on the marked cruiser and conducted a traffic stop on Kathleen Street.”
Police spoke to the man, who appeared to be impaired. They checked his driver’s licence and discovered it was suspended for unpaid fines.
He was arrested and searched. That’s when police found a bag of what appeared to be cocaine, so he was charged with drug possession.
At police headquarters, he performed poorly in a sobriety test and was charged with driving while impaired by drugs.

“While at headquarters, officers were informed that additional bags of illicit drugs and cash had been located inside the vehicle by officers on scene,” police said.
Police seized drugs believed to be 54.8 grams of crack, 42.2 grams of cocaine, 24.4 grams of fentanyl and 32 grams of crystal meth.
The drugs have a street value of $17,450, police said. More than $550 in cash was also found.
He was also charged with multiple counts of drug trafficking and was held for bail court.
