Sudbury police search for dirt bike rider who did wheelies around officer during traffic stop

Police in Greater Sudbury have released photos of a dirt bike rider in the Hanmer area that the public has been complaining about – and who had an encounter with an officer during a traffic stop.

The incident with police took place around 11:45 p.m. on Sept. 1 in the area of Municipal Road 80 and Main Street in Hanmer.

"While on the traffic stop, an unknown individual on a dirt bike began circling the cruiser, doing wheelies and donuts causing safety concerns for both the officer and the driver involved in the traffic stop," Sudbury police said in a news release Wednesday.

"The driver of the dirt bike then fled on the bike at a high rate of speed. The same dirt bike and driver has been the subject of numerous traffic complaints in the Valley East/Hanmer area."

Anyone with information about the identity of the driver and the location of the dirt bike is asked to contact police at 705-675-9171, ext. 2415, or Crime Stoppers at 705-222-8477.
