SUDBURY -- Greater Sudbury Police have cleared the scene in Hanmer police said Thursday evening.

"There is no risk to public safety," police said in a tweet. "We would like to thank the residents in the area for your cooperation, as well as, the staff, students and guardians of St. Anne Elementary School." 

Capreol Road, which was closed at one point, has since reopened. Police say that the investigation is still ongoing.

There's a heavy police presence on St. Michel Street and Cote Boulevard in Hanmer after reports of possible gun shots, Greater Sudbury Police said Thursday afternoon.

Police are helping staff and students at a nearby St. Anne School get on buses and vehicles to leave the area. 

"No immediate threat to the school," police said in a tweet. "Officers have shut down Capreol Road from Cote to MR84."
