An 18-year veteran of the Greater Sudbury Police Service has resigned ahead of another disciplinary hearing.
Constable Robert Rheaume submitted his resignation Tuesday, August 20.
He was previously found guilty of discreditable conduct back in February related to public Facebook comments made about the wages of several colleagues who had made the province’s annual Sunshine List.
Rheaume was also facing two more charges of discreditable conduct on another matter related to a fundraising page he created to help cover his legal costs for the previous hearing and comments made there.
Now, as a result of his resignation, the newest internal judicial proceeding has stopped and charges will no longer be prosecuted.
Kaitlyn Dunn of GSPS tells CTV News:
"As Constable Rheaume is no longer a Police Officer, the Police Service has no jurisdiction on any matters of Misconduct against Constable Rheaume under Part V of the Police Services Act of Ontario which deals with discipline.
As Constable Rheaume is no longer an employee of the Greater Sudbury Police Service we are not able to provide any further comment.
The resignation of any Member is protected under Employment Legislation; therefore we are not legally able to provide any details."
