SUDBURY -- Sudbury police are investigating a robbery in the Donovan neighbourhood Monday and are searching for a suspect.

Residents in the Donovan probably noticed a heavy police presence Monday night at Kathleen Street and Burton Avenue.

Kaitlyn Dunn, corporate communications coordinator for Greater Sudbury Police Service, told CTV News police received a call about 8:30 p.m. about a robbery at a convenience store.

"Information provided was that a lone man entered the store, selected a few items and proceeded to the cash-out area where he went behind the counter and shoved the employee. A customer came to the employee’s aid and a physical struggle took place between the man and the customer," Dunn said. "The man was able to get an undisclosed amount of cash and then fled the store on foot prior to police arrival."

She said no one was injured in the incident.

The suspect is described as:

  • Man in his 30s
  • 5-foot 5-inches tall
  • 170 pounds
  • Shaved head
  • Scruffy facial hair
  • Wearing a blue and black plaid winter jacket, dark green and black camouflage pants and black running shoes
