Sudbury police lay IPV charges after person shows up on neighbour's doorstep
A Sudbury man, 32, is in custody facing eight intimate partner violence charges after his significant other showed up at a neighbour's door asking to call police.
Responding officers were dispatched to a home on Notre Dame Avenue in Hanmer just after 3 p.m. Dec. 11, Greater Sudbury Police Service said in a news release Thursday.
The significant other reported they had been assaulted multiple times and confined to their residence before escaping.
Paramedics provided medical attention at the neighbour's house before transporting the survivor to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Officers contained the suspect's home while a crisis negotiator and the emergency response unit were brought in.
The man exited the home around 6:30 p.m. and was taken into custody without incident.
He is charged with four counts of assault, assault causing bodily harm, forcible confinement, uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm and mischief more than $5,000.

The accused was held in custody overnight and is scheduled to appear in bail court Dec. 12.
"His name is not being released at this time to protect the identity of the survivor. No further information related to the community member will be provided to protect the individual’s identity," Sudbury police said.
"Intimate Partner Violence can happen to anyone, regardless of gender identity, sexual orientation, age, race or socioeconomic status. Abusive situations and risk factors can change quickly. You are not alone. There are support services and resources available to you and we are here to help."
