SUDBURY -- Sudbury police say six people have been arrested after two were shot in an incident in the city's West End neighbourhood on Sunday night.

Police officials say they received a call just before 8:45 p.m. on Feb. 9.

The caller told them a man had been shot at a residential complex on Whittaker Street and that the person responsible had fled the scene.

Authorities say a 24-year-old man received serious injuries from a gunshot wound and remains in hospital in stable condition.

The person that called police reported that several people were seen fleeing the complex on foot and got into a dark vehicle. Police say the caller provided the licence plate number.

Authorities say detectives found the vehicle in a parking lot off of Lasalle Boulevard and saw someone running out of a wooded area before getting into the vehicle. A K9 track was used in this area to locate the gun that is believed to have been used in the shooting.

Police say they stopped the vehicle at the intersection of Marier Street and Municipal Road 35 in Azilda while at a red light and arrested the five people inside, three men 18 to 24-years-old and two women ages 22 and 24.

Officers allege they located a replica firearm inside the car.

While at the hospital, police say a second man, 25, arrived with a gunshot wound. After the 25-year-old was treated for his injuries, he was subsequently arrested on an outstanding warrant.

As a result of the shooting, an 18-year-old man and a 20-year-old man have been charged with attempted murder with a restricted firearm. All five people found in the suspected getaway car face a charge of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Police do not believe there is any threat to the general public, but urge anyone with information to call them or Crime Stoppers.

All six people remain in custody and are scheduled to appear in bail court Monday.

Police say the names of the accused cannot be released because they have not yet been sworn though the court process.

None of the charges has been proven in court.
