SUDBURY -- Greater Sudbury Police are asking for the public's help to locate a suspect wanted in a string of six robberies in the city, all between Nov. 7 and Nov. 15.

Police said in a news release they are going public to try and find Ty Thrush, 34, because of the rising number of cases and the violent nature of the robberies. Two of the robberies took place back-to back on Notre Dame Avenue on Nov. 14.

The first took place just before 10 p.m. at a restaurant on Notre Dame Avenue.

"Information provided was that a man had entered the establishment, demanded money from the staff while displaying an edged weapon," police said. "The man stole an unknown amount of cash and then fled the area on foot prior to police arrival."

Police reviewed video surveillance when they arrived a few minutes later, and searched the area with help from tactical officers and the K9 unit, but were unable to locate the suspect.

A short time later, another restaurant on Notre Dame Avenue was robbed, but this time he wasn't able to get any cash. Again he fled before police arrived.

After reviewing video footage from both incidents, police sought an arrest warrant for Thrush. He is also the prime suspect in four other robberies: Nov 7 on Douglas Street, Nov. 8 on Elm Street, Nov. 11 on King Street and on Nov. 15 on Douglas Street.

"Due to the violent behaviour of this man and the escalating number of incidents, detectives applied for and have been granted an arrest warrant," police said.
