SUDBURY -- Health officials in the Sudbury area have confirmed a new death in the district.

According to the latest data from Public Health Sudbury & Districts, which is posted on the health unit's website daily, two new deaths have been confirmed over the last 24 hour period.

One of those deaths is connected to the Amberwood Suites retirement home. It announced Saturday evening that a second resident had died of COVID-19, just one day after the facility lost its first resident. The facility has been in a COVID-19 outbreak since Jan. 5, with 32 residents and 3 staff members testing positive since.

Details of the second death reported by the health unit were not made available.

The health unit has now seen a total of five deaths since the start of the pandemic, with three of those since Friday alone.
