SUDBURY -- Daniel Beaulieu of Sudbury is celebrating after winning an Ontario 49 second prize worth $50,000 in the Sept. 9 draw.

Beaulieu matched five numbers plus the bonus number to win the prize. He also won an additional $10 on another selection on the same ticket, bringing his total winnings to $50,010.

A 60-year-old father and grandfather, Beaulieu chooses his own numbers – special family dates and events. He discovered his win while at a retailer.

“I went to the store to replay my numbers,” he said, while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up his cheque. “That’s when the lottery terminal froze. I had no idea how much I had won.”

Beaulieu told his daughters the good news right away.

“They were so happy for me – they couldn’t believe it! Honestly, I think they were more excited than I was,” he laughed.

The explosives technician hasn’t made any plans for his winnings just yet.

“I’ll put it in my retirement fund but keep a little aside so I can treat myself and celebrate,” he said.

The winning ticket was purchased at Pioneer Snack Express on Falconbridge Road in Sudbury.
