Sudbury’s fire chief is no longer employed by the city.

The City of Greater Sudbury said Trevor Bain has been let go.

“I can confirm that Trevor Bain is no longer with the organization," said Sudbury Mayor Brian Bigger, in a statement.

"City CAO, Ed Archer, will be working with senior staff over the coming days to appoint an interim general manager for the area.”

Bain took over as Chief of Fire/Paramedic Services and General Manager of Community Safety in 2016.

He was in the spotlight for his plan to overhaul the city's fire services.

The plan called for the closure of several fire halls; reducing the number of volunteer firefighters and creating more full time positions.

It met with all kinds of opposition from members of the public, and the plan was eventually shot down by city council in April.
