Sudbury driver had ‘lines of white powder’ in vehicle, charged with impaired driving, drug possession
A call from the public about a possible impaired driver near Kapuskasing has ended with charges for a driver from Sudbury.
Ontario Provincial Police were called at midnight April 20 about the driver, who was traveling on Highway 11 near Fauquier. Police stopped the vehicle on roadway when it reached Kapuskasing.
“Upon speaking with the driver, police observed an object with lines of white powder residue in the vehicle,” the OPP said in a news release Tuesday.
“Police determined that the driver had been consuming an intoxicating substance, and the driver was arrested and transported to the Kapuskasing detachment for further testing.”
The 32-year-old Sudbury suspect is charged with driving while impaired by alcohol and drugs, cocaine possession, being a novice driver in the presence of illegal drugs and possession of unmarked cigarettes.
The accused was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on June 3 in Kapuskasing. The accused was also issued a 90-day drivers licence suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
