Sudbury district residents celebrate $1M Encore win
A group of four people from Lively in Greater Sudbury and McKerrow won $1 million in the Oct. 25 Lotto Max draw.
The group matched all seven Encore numbers in exact order. Sharing the prize are Leslie and Katherine Taylor of Lively and Randal and Ginette Mulligan of McKerrow.
Leslie and his wife, Kathy, have been playing the lottery with their close friends, Randal and his wife, Ginette, for 20 years, the OLG said in a news release Monday.
"Kathy and Ginette have been best friends since childhood," the release said.
"They’ve been there for each other through life’s ups and downs, but nothing could have prepared them for their next adventure: winning and sharing $1 million."
Leslie picks up the group’s Lotto Max and Lotto 6/49 tickets, choosing numbers based on significant birthdays and anniversaries.
"I was at home scanning our ticket on the OLG app. When I saw that we had won $1 million, I nearly had a heart attack and narrowly avoided spilling my coffee," Leslie said in the news release.
"I shouted so loudly that Kathy heard the commotion and came running downstairs to see what had happened."
"When Leslie showed me how much we’d won, I was so shocked," Kathy said.
"All I could do was stand there and stare at him in disbelief."
"I was half asleep when Leslie called to share the news,” Randal said in the release.
"As soon as he told me we’d won, I was wide awake."
"I couldn’t believe it! I was sure Leslie was joking around, since he loves a good prank," Ginette said.
"This win is a blessing, and I’m thrilled for Leslie and Kathy."
The group agreed that their win came at a great time.
"It’s one heck of an early Christmas present," Leslie said.
"It’s a great bonus, especially around the Holidays," Randal added.
