Sudbury city council fires its integrity commissioner
Sudbury city council has terminated the contract of David Boghosian, the city's integrity commissioner.
The move came at the end of Tuesday night’s council meeting councillors reviewed three code of conduct complaint reports involving three city councillors.
In his reports, Boghosian said he did not have jurisdiction to investigate complaints about Ward 11 Coun. Bill Leduc. He recommended no penalty for Ward 5 Coun. Mike Parent and a five-day suspension of pay for Ward 7 Coun. Natalie Labbee.
Council voted against that penalty.
Some councillors verbally reprimanded Boghosian and said they’ve lost confidence in his work and his reporting.
"Certainly, the reports that were received, there were lots of editorializing and a lot of commenting," said Mayor Paul Lefebvre.
"Some integrity commissioners like to certainly provide more of their opinions and their perspectives. That is their choice. Certainly, I think for some councillors that is what pushed them over to make this decision."
Boghosian will remain in his post for the next 180 days as the city finds a replacement.
