Sudbury chosen to host Ontario 55+ Summer Games
The City of Greater Sudbury has been chosen to host the Ontario 55+ Summer Games next year.
More than 1,000 participants are expected to compete in nearly 20 events next summer and generate more than $1.5 million for the local economy, the province said in a news release Thursday morning.
"The 2025 Ontario 55+ Summer Games will provide a welcome boost to tourism in the north and strengthen local hospitality industries, businesses, hotels, and restaurants as visitors enjoy the hustle and bustle of everyday life in Greater Sudbury and experience the region’s incredible landscape," the province said.
The summer games happen every two years in a partnership between Ontario's Ministry of Sport and the Ontario Senior Games Association.
Winners of the provincial competition can go on to represent Ontario at the national level.

"The games are another great example of our work to maximize the economic impact of sport tourism in Ontario and help older adults lead healthier, more active lives," sports minister Neil Lumsden is quoted as saying in the news release.
Sudbury will receive $235,000 from the province to host the games.
The city last hosted the event in 2010.
"Hosting these games allows us to continue growing our capacity for large-scale sports tourism events, generating economic benefits and cultivating community collaboration," Sudbury Mayor Paul Lefebvre is quoted as saying in the news release.
"We look forward to welcoming the athletes and their families to Greater Sudbury in August."
