A Sudbury-area restaurant owner, Craig Charrier, is going to jail for the sexual assault of one of his employees in May of 2018.
After pleading guilty, his sentence was handed down in a Sudbury courtroom Thursday, August 15.
Due to a previous publication ban, his name could not be released, but the judge approved the request from the family to lift it.
The 48-year-old is the owner of Parthenon restaurant in the Greater Sudbury community of Val Caron.
He pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a female employee, who was 17 when the incident took place last year.
Charrier has been sentenced to 90 days of jail time to be served on weekends, from 9 p.m. Sunday to Tuesday at 6 a.m.
Victim impact statements were read in court at Thursday's sentencing hearing.
Her parents say that since the assault, their daughter suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder and they fear she will be scarred by this man's action for the rest of her life.
A statement read on behalf of the victim said the ordeal has altered her life tremendously.
Charrier is sentenced to:
- 90 days in jail
- Two years of probation
- And he will be registered as a sex offender for the next ten years.
The judge has also ordered Charrier to not associate in any way with the victim or her family.
Her family was hoping that Charrier would get more jail time, but are satisfied that he will have a criminal record and will remain on the sex offender registry for ten years.
