SUDBURY -- Animal adoptions in Sudbury came to a halt at the beginning of March due to COVID-19, but just recently the Ontario SPCA introduced limited-contact adoptions at its animal shelters across the province.

As a way to help find good homes for animals in need, the Northern Legacy Horse Farm located in Whitefish, just outside Sudbury, announced it will be covering all adoption fees during the month of July.

Jen Hughes, OSPCA Sudbury's animal centre manager, said this kind gesture will hopefully encourage people to adopt.

"The owners of the farm recognize that the human-animal bond is really important. And with everybody under a lot of mental stress right now, having that companion can really help your mental health. So this way, they can help out. It takes a little bit of financial strain off of that," said Hughes.

All dogs and cats will come fully vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed and neutered.

Officials with the SPCA say donations are greatly appreciated during this difficult time.
