NORTH BAY – A new survey conducted by PayPal Canada has found that 40 per cent of Canadian social media users will shop directly on social media this holiday season, and that trend continues to climb.

"When we do online, we get no crowds and we get Amazon Prime. We have free shipping and it comes to my door," said a North Bay resident.

According to the survey, Canadian social media users will spend on average more than $900 shopping on social media platforms.

The survey finds more than half of Canadian social media shoppers find is hard to resist buying something they love when they see it on social media, and almost half of Canadians say they are more likely to shop on social media this holiday season than last year.

The study has also found that men are shopping more on social media than women on a monthly basis.

Despite the study, one North Bay shopper says they support local because it's "in the store, because it's readily available and it's there."

The increase in popularity of social media shopping is largely being driven by consumers' expectation of convenience, targeted and interactive.
