Many students across Ontario are unhappy with the changes the Ford government has announced to education in the province.

And to voice their disapproval and disappointment, plans for a province-wide walkout Thursday, April 4 began about two weeks ago.

In an infographic posted on social media by @studentssayno, some of the concerns include:

  • 20% funding cut
  • Increased class sizes
  • Mandatory e-learning through online courses
  • Cellphone ban
Over 800 schools and hundreds of thousands of students have registered their participation in the April 4 walkout at 1:15 pm, with students from many others declaring their intended involvement.

A petition on change.org called Stop Ford changes to Ontario Education has gained over 53,000 signatures in two weeks.

Ontario Provincial Police in several northern Ontario communities are warning drivers of possible traffic delays due to these walkouts.

Police say to expect delays between 1 and 3 pm as they work to create and maintain a safe and peaceful opportunity for students to exercise their lawful rights while trying to minimize the impact on the public.
