SUDBURY -- Algoma Public Health reported the 30th case of COVID-19 in its coverage area Friday, involving a staff member at the FJ Davey Home in Sault Ste. Marie.
The employee was tested Sept. 14, the health unit said, and the source of the infection is unknown. Close contacts have been notified.
The Davey Home confirmed the case on its website Friday, adding that, on the advice of the health unit, the new case will not affect in-door our outdoor visits to the home by caregivers.
"If this changes, family … will be notified immediately," the statement said. "Algoma Public Health will continue its assessment and follow up of the situation and advise us if different steps need to be taken."
"We are taking this very seriously and our goal has always been to reduce the chance of transmission and to keep our residents and staff safe and healthy."
The home is working closely with Algoma Public Health, its own medical director and Extendicare’s infection prevention and control specialists (who provide operational and administrative support for the FJ Davey Home), "and will continue following their directives," the statement said.
