A traffic stop early Wednesday morning on Highway 17 in West Nipissing led to the discovery of a large cache of drugs – and charges for a suspect from Sudbury.

Ontario Provincial Police stopped the vehicle around 12:47 a.m. for speeding. It later emerged the driver was suspended and had no permit for the vehicle.

"As a result of the investigation, the driver was arrested for possession of drugs," police said in a news release.

A 27-year-old from Sudbury has been charged with drug trafficking, speeding, driving while suspended and having no insurance or permit for the vehicle.

The accused was held for bail court and remains in custody with a Nov. 27 court date in the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay.
