A 25-year-old commercial motor vehicle (CMV) driver from southern Ontario is facing an impaired charge following a traffic stop in northern Ontario.

At about 8:30 p.m. on March 11, James Bay OPP (Ontario Provincial Police) stopped a CMV west of Cochrane, Ont.

“(Police) initiated a traffic stop on a CMV that was observed crossing both fog and centre lines,” said the OPP in social media post.

The 25-year-old driver from Hamilton, Ont. was charged with impaired driving and their licence was suspended for 90 days. The tractor-trailer involved was also impounded for seven days.

None of the allegations has been proven in court.

Under Ontario’s zero-tolerance law for commercial drivers, you cannot have any alcohol in your system if you are driving a vehicle that requires an A-F driver’s licence or Commercial Vehicle Operator’s Registration.

“Operating a CMV while impaired poses an immense risk to everyone's safety,” said police.

“The OPP is committed to ensuring the safety of all motorists through enforcement and public education.”
