SAULT STE. MARIE – Last minute preparations continue for Sault Ste. Marie's big Santa Claus Parade.

Volunteers have spent their time building more than 50 floats for this year's parade. Volunteers say they do it so they can see the looks on the children's faces.

"We love watching the kids. When the kids get on the float here, it's like a different world. They are excited, they are happy, they're having fun seeing their friends and they're jumping up and down on there and it's a really good time," said Mike Mousseau, volunteer.

While the volunteers kept busy building floats, the children who will be using it spent time practicing their performance.

"The front of the float is kind of a Frozen theme and the rest of the float is going to be a nativity scene," explained Matthew Richardson, parade performer.

Nearly two dozen children aged six to 10 from the Elim's Kids in the Kitchen program will be singing songs while dressed up as Frozen characters. This is the third time the young children have taken part in the parade.

"The Santa Claus parade part is it makes me happy to be in it because there's going to be a lot of people, and there's half of the part being frozen, unfrozen and the other half is where Jesus was born… it makes me happy they are building it," said Norah Black, parade performer.

The 80th edition of the Sault Ste. Marie Santa Claus parade starts Saturday at 6 p.m. and is expected to last just over one hour.
