Ontario Provincial Police warned drivers of an expected traffic disruption on Highway 17 Wednesday.

It affected the Trans-Canada Highway going through the Mississauga First Nation, west of Blind River.

From 11am to 1pm, members of the First Nation protested the pipeline project in British Columbia by handing out literature to passing motorists by Willie’s Gas Bar at the Village Road intersection.

This comes in response to other demonstrations of solidarity across the country for the Unisto’ot’en homestead with the Wet’suwet’en Territory pipeline opposition.

The highway will be open to vehicles in both direction, but police are warning motorist to slow down and use caution during those hours.

CTV Northern Ontario's Jairus Patterson will have more from the demonstration site on CTV News Northern Ontario at 5 and 6.
