With Halloween just a couple of weeks away, it seems timely that one of the latest movies being shot in Sudbury is a slasher film.

It's called Spare Parts and was shot mostly at an auto junkyard in the valley.

It also allowed a young actress from Sudbury, Emily Alatalo, a chance to shoot a film back in her hometown.

The movie, Spare parts, is labelled as a horror-thriller and it's about an all-girls punk band that run afoul of the people in a small town and then end up as ‘modern day gladiators’ in an auto-wrecking yard.

"It's a very physically demanding role and it's exciting. It's gory, it's bloody, so anyone who likes something like that, this is the perfect movie for them." said actress Michelle Argyris.

The film crew had 18 days of shooting and filmed at various Sudbury locations, but director Andrew Hunt says the auto-wrecking facility was key.

"We needed a small town atmosphere, an auto-wrecking yard, we needed a place that was different, that hasn't been seen in film before. And we found all of that up here in Sudbury." said Hunt.

Alatalo plays a supporting role in this film and says it was a good challenge.

"I am the lead guitarist in our punk band, and I am sort of the dark side the sibling rivalry involved in the script. All of the negative aspects of my character, my personal character, amplified, so usually the things I try to control, or downplay, I sort of have to ramp up and revel in." said Alatalo.

The film’s director says the cast is really involved in the on-screen action.

"Not only are they great actresses, they are great fighters. They all have their own skill set that they are bringing to the film. They are doing a lot of their own fight choreography, and it just makes it a lot more believable and authentic." said Hunt.

Alatalo enjoyed the time back in her hometown and was happy to show her fellow cast members her favourite places around the city.

"I absolutely love being here, I get to visit my family on our days off, and I am showing the whole cast and crew what Sudbury has to offer." said Alatalo.

The director and producer say they hope this movie will be released towards the end of 2019.
