SUDBURY -- Investigators with the Special Investigations Unit are appealing for witnesses to an arrest that occurred Thursday morning in Sault Ste. Marie, resulting in injuries to a 38-year-old man.

Sault Ste. Marie Police were dispatched at 6 a.m. to the area of Wellington Street East and Pilgrim Street after receiving a report of a man pushing a motorcycle along Wellington Street.

"When officers arrived, they located the man sitting on the motorcycle," the SIU said in a news release. "Further investigation revealed that the man was wanted on an outstanding warrant."

A struggle took place when officers tried to apprehend the man, and he was arrested and transported to hospital for treatment of a serious injury.

The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates the conduct of officials that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person. All investigations are conducted by SIU investigators who are civilians.
